Power supply was again disrupted in the three north-coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, for about four hours, for the second consecutive day on Monday. The supply was disrupted due to the tripping of 400 kv inter-connected-transformer of the Power Grid Corporation of India at the Kalapaka sub-station.
The tripping took place at around 3.40 a.m. and was restored by about 8.30 a.m.
According to Chief General Manager (Operations) APEPDCL, P.V.V. Satyanarayana, to save the grid from collapsing, the 200 kv feeders at Pendurthy, Gajuwaka, Garividi and Tekkali, were hand-tripped and emergency load relief was declared.
This resulted in the power cuts in the three districts and the power was loaded into the grid to facilitate the non-disruption of services to emergency services, including the railways.
