The recent increase in the number of thunderstorm activities due to global warming, has amplified the number of cloud burst and lightning activity in the district.

Keeping in mind that lightning activity would be a major issue in the coming days, the District Collector released a poster highlighting the do’s and don’t’s, here on Monday.

Last month six persons died in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts and most of them were farmers and died in the farm fields.

As per the awareness poster, a few basic things that one should follow are - one should quickly move from open area into building and once inside stay away from doors and windows.

The other important aspect is that one should stay away from tractors, bicycles, motorcycles or any type of vehicle. Minimize contact with the ground and do not stand under an isolated tree.

One should wait for at least 30 minutes after hearing the last thunder sound and then move out in the open. And most importantly do not use any electronic equipment including cell phones.
