Former MP and actor Jamuna will be presented with the title ‘Navarasa Kala Vani’ at a function being organised by the T. Subbarami Reddy Lalithakala Parishath at the Port Kalavani auditorium here on September 17.

Announcing this at a media conference here on Saturday, Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy, who is also founder and chairman of the Parishath, said senior artistes were presented awards by the Parishath and heads of religious institutions and temples were being felicitated as part of his birthday celebrations on Sept 17 every year.

The celebrations were being organised for the last two decades in Visakhapatnam.

This year Ms. Jamuna was chosen to mark her ‘diamond jubilee film career’. A galaxy of film stars like Sridevi, Jayapradha, Jayasudha, B. Saroja Devi and Sumalatha, playback singers, political leaders and others expected to participate in the event.

Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Rajya Sabha Member KVP Ramachandra Rao, former member of Rajya Sabha Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, former Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas, former MLA T. Gurumurthy Reddy and Visakhapatnam City Congress president Behera Bhaskara Rao are expected to participate in the inaugural function.

The meeting would be preceded by a cultural evening with songs from the old films of Jamuna-ANR-NTR hits by playback and stage singers under the music direction of S. Vasu Rao.

Later replying to queries from the media, Mr. Reddy

said there was no truth in the speculation of his joining the YRS Congress. He attributed the ‘dismal performance’ of the Congress in the Nandyal byelection to the wrong choice of the party candidate.
