In support of women workers of Brandix, the Left parties on Monday demanded minimum wages for the workers along with implementation of labour laws in the company.

Women’s organisations, while alleging high-handed behaviour by the police against women workers, demanded the Government to take action against the police personnel, while MLC M.V.S. Sarma addressed a letter to the Chief Minister to take action against the management for denying workers their rights.

The Left parties held a dharna in front of the Collectorate and the women’s wing of CITU, POW, AP Mahila Samakhya and AIDWA staged a protest. Convener of CITU women’s wing S. Aruna, State general secretary of POW M. Lakshmi, district secretary of APMS A. Vimala and State president of AIDWA B. Prabhavathi, in a memorandum to the Collector, said the police had harassed women workers at Atchutapuram on April 30, dragged them, beaten them and abused them in the presence of police officials and Tahsildar.

CPI State assistant secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, district secretary A.J. Stalin, CPI (M) district and city secretaries K. Lokanadham and B. Ganga Rao said the officials were not taking action against management.
