Khel Mela for special children evokes good response

Over 500 children take part

Khel Mela organised at Arunodaya Special School, Ukkunagaram in association with ‘Friends of Arunodaya’ at Ukku Stadium involving children of regular schools with an objective to sensitise them about needs of children with disability and to facilitate inclusion evoked a good response on Saturday.

VSP collective and well-wishers of Arunodaya took an active part in the programme. They not only composed the Khel Mela anthem but also designed the posters and certificates, formed the games and its rules with nine schools and nine retro games. Over 500 children participated in the event.

Games were planned in such a way that in some games special children were part of the regular school team and for some games special children competed with other children.

RINL Director (Projects) P.C. Mohapatra inaugurated the Khel Mela in the presence of Director (Commercial) P. Raychaudhury, Director (Operations) P.K. Rath, Visteel Mahila Samiti president Bindoo Mohapatra, vice-president Ratna Ray Choudhury and Sarada Rath.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mohapatra said the event involved at bringing children of regular schools in the township to play with special children of Arunodaya. This would give them a chance to understand theneeds of special children, he added.

Arunodaya Special School secretary Sudeh Das, joint secretary Vani Deshikachar and others participated.
