A juvenile was taken into custody by the Cyber Crime Police on Thursday on the charge of cheating bank customers at ATM centres.
A customer went into the SBI ATM centre at Seethammadhara on March 7 this year. He found that one of the machines was slow and on the advice of a youth he went to another machine and withdrew Rs.10,000.
On receipt of the bank statement, he noticed that someone had withdrawn Rs.7,000 from his account through the same ATM centre. He lodged a complaint with the Three Town Police on June 5 and the case was transferred to the Cyber Crime Police.
The accused, who was aged 17 years, had completed Intermediate and was residing at Swatantra Nagar near Madhurawada. During interrogation by the police, the accused confessed to his crime. He was involved in 10 ATM cases under Two, Three and Fourth Town police stations. His modus operandi is to divert the attention of customers inside ATM centres and operate their accounts after they leave the premises. He blows up the money on luxuries with his friends.
The juvenile was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
