Junior doctors, who are on a strike for the past three days in the State, on the banner of AP Junior Doctors Association (APJUDA), decided to intensify their agitation till the government met their major demands like immediate registration of their degrees and payment of arrears of stipend.

Director of Medical Education N. Subba Rao met the striking junior doctors at Andhra Medical College (AMC) here on Saturday afternoon and appealed to them to call off their strike as the government has already issued GO s pertaining to their demands for payment of stipend arrears and other demands.

The striking students, however, refused to relent and decided to continue the agitation.

Human chain

Earlier, hundreds of junior doctors and Senior Residents staged a protest near the main gate of King George Hospital (KGH) and formed a human chain and went around the main building. Keeping flowers in their ears, the junior doctors, including a large number of women, participated in the protest raising slogans denouncing the government for failing to implement the assurances given to them in the past.

APJUDA panel member Kodandaram Jammu said the junior doctors were not against serving in the rural areas compulsorily for a year after getting their degrees. They were only demanding immediate registration so that the one year experience would count, when they apply for the post of senior resident.

He said the government had issued GOs but was not keen on implementing them.
