Panabaka for Hyderabad as UT if decision is not changed
Union Ministers D. Purandeswari and Panabaka Lakshmi said on Tuesday that they were committed to Samaikyandhra and would raise the issue at the Group of Ministers meeting slated for November 18.
Ms. Lakshmi, during a chat with reporters at the airport here said if bifurcation was inevitable, Hyderabad should be made a Union Territory.
Ms. Purandeswari, who represents Visakhapatnam in Lok Sabha, said she would go by what people in her constituency wish her to do on the division issue.
Speaking at Rachabanda programme conducted for Visakhapatnam South Assembly constituency at Indira Priyadarshini stadium, she poked fun at Opposition parties for accusing the Congress of resorting to opportunistic politics by deciding to grant Statehood to Telangana. Ms. Purandeswari said the party announced its T-decision after the parties gave their consent.
“While one party takes out Atma Gauravam yatra, another organised Samaikya Shankaravam.
Who is resorting to opportunistic politics, the people must decide,” she said in an oblique reference to the stand taken by Telugu Desam and YSR Congress Party on the division issue.
“They have no clarity in their stand. While attacking the Congress, they are not spelling out their stand and giving suggestions on what the UPA Government should do,” she pointed out.
Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivas Rao, District Collector S. Solomon Arokia Raj, GVMC Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana and VUDA in-charge Vice-Chairman Janaki were present at the Rachabanda programme.
