Officials and employees of various departments from the district came in for special praise from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for their contribution to relief and restoration measures post-Hudhud, at a meeting here on Monday night.

Addressing a gathering of officials and employees from the district at VUDA Park, Mr. Naidu acknowledged the contribution of not only the officials and employees but also each and everyone from the city and district, who had done his/her bit in the restoration efforts.

“I had camped here for a week immediately after the cyclone and ensured that all the officials and employees were on their toes. Your contribution despite you yourself being in the thick of troubles deserves all the appreciation to motivate others to take up such efforts in future,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had flown into the city within 36 hours after the cyclone and announced Rs.1,000 crore towards Hudhud-relief measures. Employees had contributed Rs.100 crore and the District Collector has said that an additional Rs.101 crore was received in the form of donations. The Chief Minister said that earlier the government employees had fought against bifurcation of the state and they have now come together for Hudhud relief.

People lauded

Describing the people of north Andhra as ‘very good’ and ‘understanding’, Mr. Naidu said that had it been any other place, the people would have pulled up the officials for even minor delays in the restoration of power and essential supplies. Reacting to the suggestion of District Collector N. Yuvaraj, the Chief Minister directed the District Collectors of various districts to prepare a list of those who had made outstanding contribution but couldn’t be felicitated now, so that they could be given certificates at the Republic Day celebrations in the respective districts.

Joint Collector Praveen Kumar and Police Commissioner in charge Atul Singh, Director General of Fire Services N. Sambasiva Rao were among those received awards from the Chief Minister.
