Water supply by tankers was badly hit owing to Municipal Engineering staff going on mass casual leave.
The Municipal and Public Health engineering official are on a three-day mass casual leave from Thursday.
Around 400 tankers are sent every day mainly to areas in and around Pendurti and Gajuwaka. This supply was hit by the leave by the officials. On Friday only 150 tankers plied to areas where scarcity was acute or regular supply was affected.
Meanwhile, deputy executive engineers, assistant engineers and assistant executive engineers and staff participated in the relay fast on Friday.
AP NGOs Association members laid siege to the Customs and Central Excise offices in the Port Area and closed gates affecting operations. Officials and employees were not allowed to go in. At the Customs Office, city president K. V. Venkateswara Rao led the staff in the protest. NGOs and RTC staff also got closed banks in One Town area. A protest was also organised at the DCI Office.
Protesting NGOs and RTC employees went around Sitammadhara, Gurudwara, Isukathota and Waltair areas getting closed banks, LIC and Post offices.
Around 700 RTC employees participated in “Vanta-Varpu” programme at Waltair depot and held a meeting and decided to intensify the agitation. Region secretary Y. Srinivasa Rao and zone secretary P. V. V. Mohan participated.

All trade unions of the steel plant came together under the leadership of INTUC and held a dharna at Kurmannapalem junction on Friday in support of Samaikyandhra, according to Mantri Rajasekhar.
They stopped traffic for sometime and that created a jam. The steel plant employees went on a day-long hunger strike. Employees of Medical and Health took part expressing solidarity.
