Engineers of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) launched a 72-hour relay hunger strike on Thursday to protest against the proposed bifurcation of the State.
Chief Engineer B. Jayaram Reddy and Superintending Engineer V. Chandrayya were among those who participated in the relay hunger strike. The striking engineers were on a 72-hour mass casual leave.
Employees of Andhra University took out a motorcycle rally from the university to the Beach Road in support of Samaikyandhra.
Ministers criticised
Andhra University Employees’ Union leaders criticised the Ministers from the Seemandhra region for not resigning to their posts and participating in the Samaikyandhra agitation.
RTC employees, on the banner of NMU, will picket banks and Central government offices in support of the Samaikyandhra agitation on Friday.
The programme will commence from the Andhra Bank Zonal Office at Seethammadhra at 9 a.m., according to NMU State joint secretary Y. Srinivasa Rao. Electricity employees will stage a dharna at the residence of Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju at Lawson’s Bay on Friday evening.
