There is no truth in the State government’s claim that power tariff has not been increased for domestic consumers and it is imposing the hike through the grouping of consumers depending on the power they consume during an year, alleged CPI (M) on Friday .

Those using 900 units of power during a year will be in group A, followed by those using 2700 units in group B and over and above that in group C. This would result in those using 100 units of power a month being pushed into the group B since their yearly consumption would be 1,200 units, district secretary of CPI (M) K. Lokanadham said.

“The tariff is not raised but the consumer of this category will pay more. For 100 units the family pays Rs. 202 but now it has to pay Rs. 260 every month and this not acceptable”, he said.
