The Vizag Steel Bay marathon, on a half marathon course, will be held on the Visakha-Bheemli beach road here in the evening of July 2.

This is for the first time that a half marathon is being held in the evening in A.P. and around 7,000 are expected to participate in it. This event would further promote Visakhapatnam globally, said Collector N. Yuvaraj at a press conference. The competition would be in 10 km and 5 km and there would a fun run event of 3 km.

City police, GVMC and several PSUs were extending their help to the event and the organisers offer free entry to school and college students. The police, CRPF, Navy, APSP and other organisations would participate in the event. This might not be a competition but participation was important, Mr. Yuvaraj said.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate the event at the RK beach and also distribute medals at the end of the event. A cultural programme would be conducted at the starting point on the half marathon and events were arranged at 24 spots along the course. Participants would be given a kit at the Viswapriya function hall two days before the event.
