Municipal Commissioner M. Harinarayanan has directed the officials to ensure cleaning of storm water drains and thereby prevent their clogging and flowing of drain water on the roads.
The Commissioner visited various areas in the 41st ward (Zone-4) and gave instructions to the officials concerned. He said the storm water drains at Thummadapalem, Subhash Nagar and Gouri Nagar were chocked with wastes, which was preventing free flow of drain water.
He directed the Zonal Commissioner Ramana Murthy and Executive Engineer Venu Gopal to get the drains cleaned at least manually.
He directed Sanitary Inspector Satyam to ensure that the workers attended to their duties properly. The manhole covers, should be opened, wherever necessary and the drains should be cleaned.
He asked the officials concerned to get the vacant plots cleaned and recover the money spent on clearing work from the plot owners as ‘fines’. The collection of waste and wild plants on vacant plots was leading to the proliferation of mosquitoes and this should be prevented.
Mr. Harinarayanan also inspected the segregation of ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ wastes collected in residential colonies. He said ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ programme was being organised with the target of dry and wet waste segregation.
This programme also envisages that citizens should dump the wastes at the designated spots only and abstain from throwing wastes in drains.
He said Visakhapatnam city has bagged the top rank in Swachch Sarvekshan only with the participation and involvement of people in keeping the city clean.
