HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Saturday inaugurated an escalator on Platform No. 2 and 3 at the Anakapalle Railway Station.

He announced that another escalator would soon be functional between Platforms No. 1 and 2. The cost of the project is Rs. 1 crore.

The Minister also appreciated the efforts of Anakapalle MP Muttamsetty Srinivasa Rao and MLA P. Govinda Satyanarayana for the development of the Anakapalle station into a model station.

Once Visakhapatnam becomes the headquarters of the proposed new railway zone, Anakapalle will gain prominence. A foot-over-bridge has also been proposed at the station. The Minister said Mr. Srinivasa Rao had already met the Railway Minister, seeking halts for some superfast trains at Anakapalle, besides proposing a new railway line from Tuni to Kottavalasa connecting Narsipatnam and Chodavaram towns, which do not have rail connectivity.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao and Mr. Govinda Satyanarayana were present at the inaugural function.

Besides another escalator, a foot-over-bridge has also been proposed at the station
