An engineering graduate was arrested on Tuesday on charge of sexually harassing two minor girls, who were related to him, at Peda Gantyada under New Port Police Station.

The accused, S. Rajesh (26), had completed B. Tech and was unemployed. The victims, who were his nieces, were living close to his house. The accused used to lure the girls, who were studying in class-VII and class-IV, with chocolates, biscuits and cakes and took them to his house when the other family members were away and allegedly raped the elder girl and sexually harassed the younger one.

This has been reportedly happening on and off for the last three months. The mother of the girls came to know of it after the elder girl complained of vaginal pain. On persistent questioning she confided to her mother of the crime committed by Rajesh.

The victims’ mother lodged a complaint with the New Port Police. Inspector G. Srinivasa Rao said the accused was arrested and cases were booked against him under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Nirbhaya Act.

The victims were sent to the King George Hospital for medical examination and the accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
