Durabai birth anniversary planned on a grand note

Elocution, essay writing and poster presentation competitions to be held as part of the celebrations

Dr. Durgaba Deshmukh Centre for Women’s Studies of Andhra University plans to celebrate the 105th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and Gandhian Durgabai Deshmukh on a grand note this year.

Focusing on various themes, the centre, in association with Millennium Software Solutions, is conducting three competitions -- elocution, essay writing, and poster presentation on its premises. The elocution competition, on the topic ‘Emergence of young leadership: values and dynamics’, is slated on Thursday from 10 a.m. Essay writing on the theme ‘Leadership and gender: why it matters and how it’s changing?’ will be held from 2:30 p.m. With the subject as ‘Gender, culture and leadership’, poster competition will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. All the competitions will be organised in English, Telugu, and Hindi.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, the centre is organising UGC training programme on ‘Leadership and challenges: a gender perspective for students’ on July 15 at 10 a.m. where prizes and certificates will be distributed to the winners and participants of the competitions.

Speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday, centre director B. Ratna Kumari said: “The idea is to include as many students as possible and help them participate in the competitions so that the role of leadership can be absorbed in broader perspective.”
