“There is a diamond in each of us humans waiting to be discovered,” professor of Computer Science Engineering and former Rector of Andhra University P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy has said.
However, this diamond would shine only when it was retrieved and cut into proper shape, he told students of engineering, who had gathered at the six-day ‘SG Fest-2014’, at Sai Ganapathi Engineering College in Gidijala of Anandapuram mandal in the district on Thursday.
“The diamond takes a lot of beating before it reveals itself in all its glory,” he said, underscoring the need for hard work for students to shine in life.
“The diamond inside each person is the values and character,” he explained.
Citing success stories of various individuals, Prof. Reddy urged the students to work with passion to excel in their chosen field, and noted that unfortunately a majority of students don’t know why they had taken up engineering. Students should also inculcate patriotic spirit, he added. He inaugurated a number of exhibitions set up as part of the technical festival on the college campus. A large number of students from colleges in and around the city participated enthusiastically in different events.
Working modelsA working model exhibition saw many polytechnic and engineering colleges participating, and a panel of independent judges went round evaluating the models. Prizes would be given away to the winners at the valedictory on Saturday. Students of the college set up a model village as part of the Civil Engineering Zone and a working electric train as part of Mechanical Engineering Zone.
These would be permanent features on the campus, and future batches would work to add features, director of the college K. Rajendra Prasad Rao explained.
