Cricket betting racket busted

The City Task Force (CTF) busted the second major cricket betting racket on Friday, since the commencement of the Cricket World Cup on February 14.

The first one was unearthed on February 15, during the high-voltage India and Pakistan match. Based on information and systematic cell phone tracking, the CTF team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Chittibabu and Inspector Ilyas Mohammed, raided an apartment in Sivaji Palem area and arrested Vasireddy Varaprasad (53) for allegedly indulging in cricket betting. The CTF team also seized one laptop, seven cell phones, one LCD television and about Rs. 72,000 in cash. According to the ACP, the accused, a businessman, was a seasoned professional and was into the betting since the beginning of the World Cup.
