Congress leaders to meet PM, President on SCS status

A delegation of Congress leaders from North Andhra will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on March 14 to exert pressure on the Centre to honour the assurances given in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, said Rajya Sabha Member T. Subbarami Reddy.

Interacting with the media along with party leaders Dronamraju Srinivas and Behara Bhaskara Rao here on Saturday, Mr. Reddy said that Andhra Pradesh has lost its capital Hyderabad and was in a financial crisis, post bifurcation of the State.

He demanded granting of Special Category Status (SCS), formation of a new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam and fulfilling all other promises made to the State in the AP Reorganisation Act.

One crore signatures

The party would collect 1 crore signatures from the people on implementation of the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act. The delegation, to be led by PCC president Raghuveera Reddy, would comprise party leaders and workers from the three districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam. The delegation would leave for New Delhi from Visakhapatnam by the AP AC Express on March 12.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi would also join in Delhi.

Replying to queries, Mr. Reddy said that he would pursue the formation of the new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam. The Railway Minister had promised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in this regard but failed to keep it, he said.

Uttarandhra Non-Political JAC leader J.T. Rama Rao, Samaikhyandhra Vidyardhi JAC leader Lagudu Govinda Rao and students came in a rally to the residence of Mr. Subbarami Reddy and raised slogans demanding that people’s representatives of the region take active interest in getting the new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam.
