Collector asks multiplexes to follow order on MRP

Collector Pravin Kumar has ordered that refreshments must be sold at MRP rates in multiplex theatres from October 30.

There was big price variation between prices in the market and those being levied at multiplexes, he said at a meeting with representatives of multiplex theatres and officials of Legal Metrology Department.

Charging higher rates in multiplexes in the name of ‘selected channel’ was not justified, Mr. Pravin Kumar said. Regional Officer of Legal Metrology G.V.R. Swamy gave details of the Consumers Protection Act and rules relating to price control to the theatre representatives.

Theatre representatives sought time to discuss the issue with the managements.

However, it was made clear to them that the order should be implemented from October 30.

Additional Commissioner of Legal Metrology P. Sudhakar, District Inspector S.M. Radhakrishna and representatives of multiplex theatres participated.
