Child Line 1098 played a crucial role in rescuing 42 child workers. All of them — 26 boys and 16 girls were sent to various homes for rehabilitation.
The rescue operations were carried by the District Child Welfare Committee in association with City Police Commissionerate, District Child Protection Unit and other departments after forming four rescue teams.
District Women and Child Development Agency Project Director A.E. Robert coordinated the programme. District Child Welfare Committee Chairman S. Balaraju on Sunday thanked different agencies involved in rehabilitation process and their contribution for rescuing child workers.
Active partRescue operations undertaken earlier during the year led to freeing of 60 children. The police and child rights activists took an active part in the rescue and rehabilitation of children, Mr. Balaraju said. He said they were receiving several complaints on Child Line 1098 and all of them were being heard by the District Child Welfare Committee.
