‘Be sensitive to issues of people’

The ‘insensitive’ attitude of the Railways towards the problems of common people is coming in the way of providing better amenities to them, feels Minister for Human Resource Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao.

At a meeting convened by Anakapalle MP Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao here on Wednesday to discuss railway issues pertaining to Visakhapatnam region, the Minister expressed displeasure at the style of functioning of the railway authorities.

The refusal of the railway authorities to allow construction equipment into the DRM’s Office compound, a few years ago, delayed the completion of the Asilametta flyover in the city by four years, he recalled. “I had to force the then DRM to listen by getting civic officials cut water supply to railway colonies,” he recalled. While the State and Central government organisations had their own responsibilities and limitations there should be greater coordination and mutual cooperation, he said.

MP Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao wanted development of satellite stations like Anakapalle, Duvvada, Simhachalam and Pendurthy and starting of a few trains from there to ease the congestion at Visakhapatnam railway station.

The implementation of a water supply project was held up for over a year as the divisional office had not cleared it, Anakapalle MLA Peela Govind said.
