On one hand performers gripped the audience with classical and filmy numbers in quick succession. On the other hand, the equally charged audience cheered them loudly. When the heart-pounding music filled the air, students from various schools shook a leg to the tunes with electrifying energy.
Port Kalavani Auditorium, the venue, came alive when 3,500 students from 32 schools across the city participated in the 11 Horlicks Wizkids-2013 organised by Krayon.
Some students showcased their talent dancing to a fusion of old and new filmy numbers and a few depicted the theme ‘unity in diversity’ in their performance. Some teams also performed theme-based dance such as ‘100 years of Indian cinema’ at the city-level final contest. Students of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan bagged the first prize in the group dance.
Close to 40 competitions such as painting, essay writing, musical band, ‘mehendi designing’, cooking, ‘recycling Raja’, and photography (frozen frames), among others, were conducted.
Winners of cultural competition will be receiving medals and certificates, according to Syed Sultan Ahmed, managing director of Edu Media, the event organiser.
“Every year, we are conducting the contest in 25 cities across the country, apart from Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Platforms such as this will make students understand the concept of losing and help them learn how to survive and build self-confidence,” he added.
Alluri Sai Saketh (Class X) of Little Angels School and M. Spoorthy (Class X) of Alwardas Public School emerged city winners at the interschool cultural and literary competition.
The duo will compete in the Horlicks South Asia Finals-2013 in the month of November.
Winning answer
For Spoorthy, the experience was amazing. “My spontaneous answer — women don’t need support from men but want them realise that women are much stronger than them — to one of the questions asked by the judges made me win. I feel great about the whole experience and be part of the winning team representing our school and the city,” she said.
The winners of the grand finale of South Asia Horlicks Wizkids will win a cash prize for scholarship along with a trip to Germany.
