Action plan to tackle seasonal diseases

Officials told to map high risk areas

Collector Pravin Kumar has called upon medical officers of the Medical and Health Department as also the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) to prepare an action plan to minimise casualties due to seasonal diseases in the ensuing summer and subsequent monsoon.

At a review meeting with medical officers on Friday, the Collector directed the medical officers to initiate measures to prevent deaths due to seasonal diseases like malaria, dengue and chikungunya.

Dengue and chikungunya was seen more in urban areas while malaria was more the Agency areas of the district. He called for mapping of the high risk areas and taking special measures to educate the people on seasonal diseases.

Fogging

Fogging and malathion spraying should be undertaken according to schedule from April 1 and completed on time.

He recalled that there was outbreak of dengue in Pendurthy area last year and suggested that preventive measures should be taken to prevent its recurrence this year.

The Collector also called upon the medical officers to prevent deaths due to ill-health being dubbed as ‘dengue deaths’ as it had happened last year.
