Temple earns Rs. 3 cr. duringmonth-long Margasira fest

The temple of goddess Kanaka Mahalakshmi at Burujupeta in Old Town area has earned Rs.40 lakh more revenue during the recently concluded Margasiramosotsavam compared to the previous year.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, temple Executive Officer S. Jyothi Madhavi said the temple earned revenue of Rs. 3 crore during the month-long festival held from Nov. 30. As part of the development plans, a 118 square-foot land was purchased by the temple. That land came in handy for regulating the queue lines and the V.T. College premises was used for distribution of ‘prasadam’ to devotees, who thronged the temple in large numbers during the festival.

The EO said ‘Maha Annadanam’ was arranged on the premises of Sri Jagannadha Swamy temple and1.5 lakh devotees participated in the programme. She said devotees offering milk and performing puja to the main deity was resulting in delays in the queue lines during the annual festival. The arrangements being made at the Mahankali temple at Ujjain would be studied this year and efforts would be made to provide ensure quick darshan at the Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple.

She thanked the police, GVMC, Fire Services Department and Health officials and staff for contributing to the success of the festival.

She said spiritual orator Chaganti Koteswara Rao would deliver spiritual discourses on ‘The Ramayana’ at the temple of Sri Rama at Ambika Bagh (near Jagadamba junction) from Feb 13 to 17.

Temple Trust Board Chairman W. Bhaskara Rao appreciated the devotees for being patient and cooperating with the authorities despite occasional delays in the darshan. The Trustees had also done their bit in ensuring the orderly movement of queue lines and proper conduct of the ‘Maha Annadanam’ programme.

Trust Board members Ch. Chandra Rao, PV Giridhar, Pilli Venkata Ramana, Kadha Bhaskar Rao, Voduri Sivayya, Raavi Chalapathi Rao, P. Vijay Kumar, Ch. Durga Prasad, chief priest Brundavanam Desikacharyulu, Deputy Executive Engineer Ch.V. Ramana and Assistant EOs V. Rambabu and P. Rama Rao were present.
