Progressive Democratic Front nominee A. Aja Sarma on Tuesday filed his nomination for the North Andhra Graduates Constituency.

Accompanied by incumbent MLC from the constituency M.V.S. Sarma, MLC from teachers’ constituency Ramu Surya Rao, and APTF-257 honorary president G. Simhadrappadu, he filed his nomination with District Collector and Returning Officer Pravin Kumar.

Earlier, he came in rally from the Ambedkar statue near the LIC building with his supporters comprising teachers and employees from various sections.

Mr. Aja Sarma told reporters later that as many as 216 associations and unions representing employees, teachers and workers were supporting him.

He had been working with employees and workers and knew about the problems in the region.

North Andhra was backward in all sectors not because it lacked resources but owing to the neglect of political parties.

He would endeavour for the development of the region being well aware of the problems through the North Andhra Development Forum of which he was general secretary.

Later, addressing a meeting at the Zilla Parishad, Mr. M.V.S. Sarma said though the seat was won twice by the PDF, there was no room for complacency. Voters being educated would know about the policies of the Central and the State governments and would support the PDF nominee, he hoped.

Mr. Simhadrappadu said Mr. Aja Sarma, though new to the electoral politics, was quite familiar with the backwardness of North Andhra.

Leaders of UTF and RTC Union spoke in support of Mr. Aja Sarma. The State Teachers’ Union and the APTF-257 are extending support to him, according to STU district general secretary E. Paidiraju.
