Covering the busiest public transport routes in the city, Metro Rail is likely to come up in three corridors. Of the three surveys that will pave the way for preparing detailed project report one is under way. The three corridors run an estimated stretch of 34 km.
As indicated by Advisor to the Andhra Pradesh Government on Metro Rail E. Sreedharan the three corridors cover the core areas of the city from Madhuravada to NAD Junction and Tatichetlapalem to near VUDA Park.
The three corridors are: Madhurawada to NAD, Tatichetlapalem to Old Post Office via Railway New Colony, Railway Station, Allipuram, Ambedkar Statue, Jagadamba Junction, Purna Market and Old Post Office. The third corridor will begin from Gurudwara and will cover up to Park Hotel Junction via GVMC Office, Meghalaya Hotel, Siripuram, Andhra University Out Gate and Park Hotel. An agency appointed by Del etro Rail Corporation has taken up a topographic survey including width of the roads, buildings etc and readies an inventory on the stretch. Sources say while a team has taken up the work, another will soon join it.
Almost simultaneously, a traffic survey will be taken up. It will take up a survey of the present traffic by various modes including public and private transport, para transport etc. on the identified 34 km. Besides, it will also look into the originating points of the traffic.
The third will be geotechnical survey that will study the soil conditions.
The three surveys will be carried out more or less simultaneously and completed in about one-and-a-half months. As the surveys are going on, teams from DMRC will come and oversee it. Once the surveys are completed they will go to the design team in DMRC and form the basis for preparing the DPRs, say sources.
