A 24X7 drive to clear garbage to make the city a zero garbage destination, vehicles to lift garbage from commercial complexes, and stern action against those littering by levy fine are among the measures to further clean up the city. These measures will be implemented from Monday.

The measures come ahead of the Visakha Utsav scheduled from January 1 and in preparation for the prestigious International Fleet Review in February.

The city also aims at scoring better in the Swachh Bharat survey. The survey will be conducted from January 1 to 15.

In each zone 60 to 70 workers will be put on the job.

Detailed plan

While the regular garbage clearance is taken up from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., from 2 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., two vehicles in each of the zones will be deployed at commercial complexes to lift garbage from them. From 8.30 p.m., night sanitation begins.

The drive is particularly intended to ensure cleanliness at 35,000 identified commercial premises.

The sanitation drive will also particularly focus on 25 to 30 roads newly improved for the IFR.

A detailed plan to take up the sanitation and act against violators has been chalked out by Municipal Commissioner Pravin Kumar.

Uniform fine books are being given to municipal employees at various levels to impose fine of Rs.100 for violation.

The Commissioner ordered that besides imposition of fine, if necessary, trade licence of commercial premises would be cancelled.

Mr. Pravin Kumar, who found stray cattle grazing at the median at Thatichetlapalem during his visit, instructed the officials to impound and send them to the pen.
