An angry youngster doused himself with kerosene and threatened to set himself on fire to express his anguish against the inclusion of Kapus in the Backward Classes list here on Tuesday.

Vemu Murali Goud of Nekrekal in Guntur district came to attend a meeting organised by the B.C. Welfare Association at Hotel Ilapuram in Vijayawada. After TDP MLA R. Krishnaiah spoke, some Kapu leaders came and gave him a representation asking him not to oppose the inclusion of Kapus in the BC list.

This triggered a furore with the participants raising slogans against the Kapu leaders.

In the melee, Goud took out a pet bottle with a mixture of kerosene and petrol and doused himself with the liquid and threatened to set himself ablaze.

He was immediately overpowered by others and put under a shower.

The police tried to arrest him, but the leaders whisked him away.
