Andhra Cricket Association secretary Gokaraju Gangaraju on Wednesday said that the junior cricket was the stepping stone for the players to get into the senior Indian team and asked the girls to give their 100 per cent.
Inaugurating the week-long all India inter-zonal under-19 women one-day limited overs cricket tournament at ACA stadium at Mangalagiri, he said ACA was taking extra interest in developing women’s cricket. “ACA has set up an exclusive academy for the women at Guntur. BCCI is highly appreciative of our interest in developing women’s cricket and that is the reason this tournament was allotted to us,” he added.
He asked the girls to excel as their performances would be watched by the members of the women’s national selection committee headed by Ms. Gargi Benerjee and Ms. Rita Dey.
The match between East Zone and West Zone was held at ACA stadium at Mangalagiri, while the South Zone – North Zone match was held at ACA’s women’s academy at Guntur.
Koka Ramesh, secretary, Central Zone, M.S.K. Prasad, director, Cricketing Operations, ACA, A. Yella Rao, organising secretary, women’s tournament, C.R. Mohan, media relations manager and Nitin Kalekar, match referee, took part in the inaugural function.
