Civic officials have taken up road repair works on key stretches in the city on Wednesday, bringing the much-needed relief to motorists.
A day after a report was published in this newspaper with the headline, “Motorists fume over bumpy ride on city roads,’’ the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department undertook repair works on pothole-riddled stretches. The ever-busy stretches near Sankranti hotel on M.G. Road and NTR Circle have been repaired, officials said, adding that efforts were on to complete works on other damaged roads, too.
The two-km stretch starting from Police Control Room to Benz Circle was also repaired at a cost of over Rs. 4 crore. “We have also started marking signage on the newly laid road to ensure lane discipline,” a senior R&B official said.
Fund shortageHe said the Department was not able to complete the works owing to shortage of funds. “We are in touch with the National Highways Authority of India to sort out jurisdictional problems. We will ensure a hassle-free drive for motorists after repairing roads,” he added.
