More than 2,000 cycling enthusiasts took part in the ‘Mega Cyclothon’, which was jointly organised by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), City Police and Andhra Bicycling Club (ABC) on Sunday.
Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian, Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation president-elect M. Murali Krishna, Andhra Hospitals managing director P.V. Ramana Murthy and other dignitaries flagged off the rally at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium.
It passed through Benz Circle, Ramavarappadu, Gunadala, Machavaram, Chuttugunta, Old Bus Stand, Bandar Locks and PWD Grounds and culminated at the IGMC stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Veerapandian said steps were being taken to divert traffic on main roads for a few hours on the first Sunday of every month to facilitate walking, running, cycling and other physical activities to promote healthy living.
ABC founder Padma Tummala and advisor Ramesh Babu participated in the event. A large number of students also participated in the rally that covered a distance of 15 km.
