The body of the seven-year-old girl, a victim of the private boat tragedy in Krishna River near Pavitra Sangamam has been fished out by search teams. The toll touched 22 and search operation is on for one more tourist and two crewmen including the boat driver. Authorities are unclear if the driver had managed to escape as alleged by some or was buried under the water.
The body of Popuri Ashwika, a native of Nellore district was fished out at around 12.30- a.m. on Tuesday, more than 31 hours after the mishap. The boat capsized at 5.20 p.m. on November 12.
Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya who was overseeing the search operation in the midnight directed authorities concerned to make arrangements to shift the body to Nellore. The body was handed over to the family at Guntur Government Hospital later.
Ashwika’s mother Popuri Haritha (33) and her grandmother Popuri Lalithamma (56) also lost their lives in the tragedy. Their bodies were fished out on Monday.
The trio visited Berm Park and boarded the doomed boat along with about 32 members of Ongole Walkers Club to have a glimpse of the holy confluence of Krishna and the Godavari and Pavitra Harathi at the Pavitra Sangamam, 20 kilometres away from the starting point.
