The Department of State as part of streamlining the visa issue process and to reduce the waiting time at the consulate office has launched a pilot project under which those already possessing a visa can be given a waiver from attending an interview.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, Consulate General of The United States of America Vice-Consul Andrew Chapman said that students seeking visas will not be exempted from this, with others not being present at time for interviews, their waiting time would reduce. Full validity visa renewal or expired in last 48 months in Business/Tourism (B1/B2) Transit or Crew Member can apply in a special form available on the website and the processed visa sent back through courier, he said.
The number of H1B visa application had come down and did not even come to the upper cap for them, hence he said more number of Indians would be encouraged to apply for the visa and as such no cap was there on student visa or under this pilot project. Those who had given their finger prints after 2008 need not attend for providing the finger print also.
