A rich fare of Carnatic music is in store for the lovers of classical music, thanks to a three-day music festival being organised by the All India Radio from Friday.
The “Trinity and Other Vaggeyakara Music Festival – 2010”, as it has been titled, will be held at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government College of Music and Dance at 6.30 p.m. every day.
With two concerts each on all the three days, all the six concerts will be recorded and broadcast by all the stations of the AIR in the country at 9.30 p.m. on different days in May, June and July.
‘A first'
“This is a first of its kind programme in the 60-year history of the AIR, Vijayawada, as the concerts held here are being broadcast nationally,” said Mangalagiri Aditya Prasad, Station Director, AIR, Vijayawada, at a press conference on Tuesday.
In addition to the compositions of Saint Thyagaraja, Muttuswamy Dikshitar and Syama Sastri, who are together known as “Trinity of Carnatic Music”, the keerthanas of three other famous composers – Mysore Vasudevachar, Swathi Thirunal and Patnam Subramanya Iyer – will also be sung by different ‘A' grade artistes of the AIR.
The festival will begin with a concert by Vasundhara Rajagopal, who will render the compositions of Thyagaraja. This will be broadcast by all the stations of the AIR on May 22. The second concert of the day will be by Rudrapatnam Brothers (R.N. Thyagarajan and R.N. Taranathan), who will render the compositions of Mysore Vasudevachar. This concert will be broadcast on May 30.
On the second day (Saturday), the compositions of Muthuswamy Dikshitar will be sung by Malladi Brothers (M. Sriramprasad and M. Ravi Kumar) at 6.30 p.m. This programme will be broadcast on June 20. The second concert of the day, at 8 p.m., will be by Omana Kutty with support from B. Arundhati. He will treat the audience to the compositions of Swathi Thirunal. This concert will be broadcast on June 12.
On the final day (Sunday), the first concert will be by V.L. Tulasi Vishwanath, who will sing the compositions of Syama Sastri.
The programme will be broadcast on July 3. The festival will end with a concert by Shertallay K.N. Renganatha Sharma, who will render the compositions of Patnam Subramanya Iyer. This concert will be broadcast on July 11.
