Tibetan students embarked on a rally from Siddhartha Circle at Moghalrajpuram to Prakasam barrage.
The 55th Anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day was observed by nearly 70 students in the city on Monday under the aegis of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RTYC).
They took out a rally from Siddhartha Circle at Moghalrajpuram to Prakasam barrage seeking freedom from Chinese occupation and an end to alleged human rights violations.
RTYC president Tenzin Leckmon said March 10, 1959 was the day when tens of thousands of Tibetans took to the streets in Lhasa in protest against the Chinese invasion. On that day, the Tibetan people surrounded the Potala Palace, the home of Dalai Lama, for protecting him and future of the Tibetan nation. Samata Janamargam convener V.V. Krishna Rao, who has been campaigning for the rights of Tibetans for over a decade, said the severe crackdown by the Chinese provoked an unprecedented wave of self-immolations by Tibetan monks and the common people.
