The first phase of polling to local bodies in the district ended on Sunday. Barring incidents of a Sub-Inspector being assaulted at Kothapalem village in Nizampatnam mandal and lathi charge in Narsaraopet division, polling was by and large peaceful. The average polling touched the 80 per cent mark.
Polling was held to elect ZPTCs/MPTCs in Tenali and Narsaraopet divisions. Tenali division has 18 ZPTCs and 285 MPTCs and Narsaraopet 11 ZPTCs and 185 MPTCs. Seven ZPTCs in Tenali and eight ZPTCs in Narsaraopet divisions have been elected unanimously.
The second phase of polling in Guntur and Gurazala divisions will be held on April 11.
At Kothapalem village in Nizampatnam mandal Koti Reddy, SI of Adavuluadeevi, was attacked by a mob, forcing the SI to flee on his motorcycle. Four persons including three YSRC activists were taken into custody.
Mopidevi under house arrestFormer Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao was placed under house arrest at his native village, Nizampatnam as a precautionary measure. In Atthota village in Kollipara mandal, a voter took away the ballot paper. The polling personnel retrieved the ballot paper and cancelled the vote. Altercation between TDP and YSRC activists took place in Narsaraopet division.
IG (Guntur Range) P. V. Sunil Kumar inspected the polling stations at Narsaraopet, while Collector S. Suresh Kumar inspected the polling booths at sensitive villages of Lingamguntla, Ravipadu and Gunnavaripalem villages in Narsaraopet division.
