State govt. violating court directions in evacuating canal bund residents: CLC

Members of the Civil Liberties Committee (CLC) alleged that the Government was violating the Supreme Court (SC) and High Court’s (HC) directions in evacuating the residents staying on canal bunds in Vijayawada.

They alleged that the officials were forcibly vacating the people residing on Bandar, Eluru and Ryve’s canal bunds and were harassing them by stopping power and drinking water supply.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, committee Krishna district unit president T. Anjaneyulu said in the name of beautification officials were shifting many families to the city outskirts, where there were no facilities.

CLC district vice-president T. Gangadhar alleged that the officials were violating the civil rights and democracy in the capital city. Committee leader K. Vignesh appealed to the political parties to join hands to protect the rights of the poor in the city.
