State govt. plans big for promotion of sports

‘Each Assembly constituency will have a stadium’

The State government would soon announce its sports and youth policy, according to Youth Services and Sports Minister Kollu Ravindra.

The Minister assumed office at Secretariat at Velagapudi near here on Wednesday. Mr. Ravindra holds six portfolios, including law, skill development, unemployment allowance, sports, youth services and NRIs department.

On the occasion, he said that the government intends to develop and promote sports in a big way in the State. Plans were afoot to construct at least one stadium in each Assembly constituency. The government has also plans to develop as many as 3,000 sports grounds in schools, he said.

The youth would be involved in the process of development in the State. Skill development Corporation would be developed in the State with the support of Central government. Non-resident Indians would be encouraged to take part in the development process, he said.

Referring to bridge that connects Machilipatnam region and Diviseema, the Minister said that the bridge was being constructed at a cost of ₹65 crore. The Vijayawada-Machilipatnam national highway would also be completed at the earliest. The farmers gave their 3,000 acre land for construction of Machilipatnam port. “Problems, if any, in acquisition were being resolved by Machilipatnam MP and me,” he said, adding, the farmers were extending their cooperation. Shanghai in China has similar conditions. So, the government is studying the conditions prevailing there. The works will begin after a plan for the port is in place.”

Draft prepared

It may be recalled that the government had kick-started the process and a draft sports policy is already prepared. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted the officials to formulate the new sports policy to promote sports in every constituency in the State.

The Minister signed on file relating to construction of court buildings. The court buildings will be constructed with ₹115 crore.
