Sports is an essential extra-curricular activity that should be made part of every school's curriculum, Superintendent of Police, Guntur Urban, D.S Chauhan said here on Saturday.

Mr. Chauhan, who inaugurated the 56th A.P State Rifle Shooting Championship on the premises of Little Flower English Medium High School, expressed his concern that stress has permeated education at all levels, including primary and secondary education. “Teachers and parents should take steps to take stress out of education by encouraging children to pursue a healthy sporting activity,'' the SP said in his inaugural address. He had also word of encouragement for students. “Do not get bogged by small failures but rather work on your strengths,'' he said.

Sports offers a great career but children should also remember that it takes considerable level of achievement to make a career out of sports alone, he said.

Later, the SP untagged air balloons to mark the inauguration of the championship. He also took a shot at the air rifle and hit the bull's eye with ease. Inspector of Physical Education, A.P Ch. Venkateswara Rao, School correspondent Fathima Marreddy, principal Sr. Tresa, Regional Joint Director GVO Murali Kumar, RJD (inter) Mohan Rao, tournament observer P Vittal Kumar and Physical Director cum coach S. Venkateswarulu were present.
