Six wards to be made ‘smart’

Residents residing in 8th , 9th , 30th , 31st , 53rd and 56th divisions can expect better facilities especially sanitation, clean roads and proper disposal of garbage as the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation have identified these wards for transforming into the Smart wards.

The corporation authorities under the ‘Smart Wards’ programme are working to ensure proper segregation of waste, blockage-free drains, better and faster transportation of the waste and etc. Under a pilot project, authorities have identified the two divisions each from the Circle 1, 2 and 3.

During a meeting held here on Thursday, sanitary officials were instructed to prepare guidelines for taking measures to transform a few divisions into ‘Smart Wards’. Solid waste management expert Uday Singh Gautam participated in the meeting.

He listed out the steps, including curbing reliving in the open, proper maintenance of public toilets, provision of dumper bins, effective transportation of garbage, debris and other waste and etc, to develop the divisions.

To this effect, officials are also prepared to utilise the services of NSS volunteers and other organisations to monitor the segregation of waste and other sanitation services.
