The City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF), formed by the VMC with Mayor as chairman, Commissioner as convener and 20 other members, has been criticised by the Opposition parties.

The CSTF was formed as per the orders of the State government under the National Urban Health Sanitation Policy, 2008.

Alleging that the selection was biased, YSRC corporators raised voice over Opposition party corporators not being considered.

Responding to them, Municipal Commissioner J. Nivas said only 20 members were allowed in the task force and read the list of categories from which members could be roped in as per the policy. Opposition members questioned the selection of TDP corporators Y. Ramaiah and Ch. Gandhi to which the Mayor responded saying, “It is our wish.”

In a protest, Opposition members staged a walkout and immediately came back to their seats and launched a protest.

YSRC floor leader B. Punyaseela expressed dissent over the conversion of four abandoned sites in the city into commercial spaces and also submitted dissent notices to the council chairman.

Also, the council passed resolutions to take action against unlicensed trades in the city, setting up of name boards in English and Telugu for all streets, revisiting of dilapidated old structures and other issues.

The council passed a resolution transferring the total financial burden of all works to be taken up in the city to facilitate the Amaravati Metro Rail.

As many as seven major works, including roads and bridges at a cost of ₹152 crore, need to be done before the AMRC takes up Metro works.

The CSTF members include the civic body’s Chief Medical Officer of Health M. Gopi Naik; PWD engineer R. Ankaiah; assistant medical officer of health (II) Babu Srinivas; strategy standing committee chairman and corporator A. Ravi Kumar; sanitary supervisor and co-opted member S.V. Subba Rao; P. Madhusudhana Rao of Electricity colony and D. Azad of New Postal Colony; A. Nagamalleswara Rao and C. Ramachandra Rao of NGO association; V. Bhaskar Rao and P. Vara Prasad of merchants associations; Pandu Rangarao of V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College; S. Rama Mohan of Public Health Workers’ Association; M. Rukmini of Mytri Yuvajana Sangam; corporators Y.
