Counselling for admission to post-graduate courses in medical colleges across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is likely to begin at the NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) here on April 29.

A total of 8,983 candidates figuring in the Post-Graduate Medical Entrance Test (PGMET-2015) merit list, are expected to participate in the counselling for which the seat matrix has already been worked out by Directors of Medical Education of the two States - G. Santha Rao (A.P) and P. Srinivas (Telangana), and NTRUHS Vice-Chancellor T. Ravi Raju.

Yet another meeting in this regard is scheduled to be held at NTRUHS on April 26 for taking a final look at seat matrix so as to remove anomalies that can trigger protests during counselling.

Bone of contention

Last year’s PGMET counselling had to be suspended for two days following allegations by a section of candidates belonging to Telangana that they were at a disadvantage vis-à-vis their counterparts from Andhra and Sri Venkateswara Universities in getting admissions to colleges of their choice in spite of securing good ranks.

Counselling resumed after the DMEs sorted out differences over distribution of seats in the unreserved categories which was the bone of contention then.
