Over 10,000 candidates appeared for the Civil Services (preliminary) examinations conducted by Union Public Service Commission here on Sunday.
The exam was held in 32 sub-centres in two sessions: paper-I from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and paper-II from 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., according to officials.
They said that of the total 10,334 candidates, who registered for the examinations, as many as 5,201 candidates appeared for the paper-I exam while 5,133 for the paper-II exam.
Candidates frisked
“We have taken necessary steps to prevent use of mobile phones and other electronic devices at the examination centres,” said Krishna District Collector Babu A.
He inspected centres at Bishop Azaraiah School and Shatavahana College. Out of 43 differently abled persons, only 18 of them appeared.
Krishna District Joint Collector Gandham Chandrudu said candidates were allowed only after frisking them thoroughly at the entrances.
The administration conducted the exam in coordination with the municipal and revenue officials, he said.
