Make moral education part of curriculum: judge

Fifth convocation of KLU held, conferring degrees on 2,000 Ph.D, M. Tech, B. Tech, MCA, MBA, BBA and B. Com students. Besides, gold medals were awarded to 15 PG and nine degree toppers.

Koneru Lakshmaiah University (KLU) conferred honorary degree of Doctorate in Science on G. Sateesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to Raksha Manthi, at its fifth convocation conducted on the campus at Vaddeswaram village in Guntur district on Saturday.

The university conferred degrees on 2,000 Ph.D, M. Tech, B. Tech, MCA, MBA, BBA and B. Com students. Besides, gold medals were awarded to 15 PG and nine degree toppers. Silver medals were awarded to 15 toppers in PG and nine degree students.

Supreme Court Judge N.V. Ramana, Mr. Sateesh Reddy, Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation president Koneru Satyanarayana, KLU Chancellor M. Ramamoorty, Vice-Chancellor L.S.S. Reddy and Registrar T. Uma Maheswara Rao conferred degrees on the students.

Delivering the convocation address, Justice Ramana exhorted youngsters to work hard and serve the motherland. He said moral education with emphasis on Indian tradition and culture should be part of the curriculum in all education institutions and stressed the need for revamping the education system to facilitate students to participate in social activities to know human values.

“If parents raise their children with values, respecting elders and women and make them understand ethics and problems facing society, children will be groomed into good citizens. Teachers and parents should maintain good relationship and guide children in a proper way to achieve their goals, which contributes to the development of the country,” the Judge said.

Accepting the degree, Mr. Sateesh Reddy called upon students to use their knowledge for designing missiles, the major components being used in aerospace and defence sectors to bring down import.

‘Develop indigenous missiles’

“Despite qualified engineers, India is importing all electronic, electric and other goods. There is an urgent need for improving technology, manufacturing indigenous machines, missiles and its components and cut down imports,” Mr. Reddy said.

Mr. Satyanarayana said it was a matter of pride that the KLU alumni were in higher positions in various fields across the globe.

The Vice-Chancellor presented the annual report.
