A lorry was trapped in a huge crater formed in the middle of road at Veeramachineni Ranga Rao street in Sitapuram here on Sunday. The lorry owner brought a crane to lift the lorry from the crater even before police and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials arrived at the scene.

The incident damaged two drinking water pipelines. The corporation officials, however, restored them immediately.

The local people said that the road was not restored properly after carrying out under ground drainage (UGD) works by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC).

The corporation officials had not re-laid the road on a few yards stretch. It has been frequently posing problem. Sometime ago, a car was trapped in it. The corporation has not taken any steps in restoring the road, they said. The VMC officials said that the crater was formed due to loose soil beneath the drainage lines. The crater was filled with concrete, and the road will be restored, they added.
