The CPI would organise a ‘jail bharo’ on May 19 to protest against the Central government’s moves to amend the Land Acquisition (LA) Act, according to party State secretary K. Ramakrishna.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Ramakrishna said that the ‘jail bharo’ was being organised as part of nationwide protest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was claiming that his government was pro-farmer by announcing increase of crop loss compensation. “If the Central government is so concerned about the farmers, why should it amend the LA Act? Will there be any farmers left out to claim crop loss compensation if all their lands are taken away?” he asked.
The Centre was planning to safeguard interests of corporate companies. The government was amending the LA Act with a view to hand over agricultural lands on a platter to the corporates at the cost of farmers, he alleged adding that these issues would be highlighted at the protest programme.
‘Encounter fake’
Referring to encounter at Seshachalam forest, the CPI leader dubbed it as fake. The CPI sent a fact finding team to the incident area.
The party found that there was no truth in claims of the government as all those killed were poor woodcutters and coolies. There were no smugglers.
