A drunken brawl resulted in a violent outcome with a person mercilessly murdering two of his acquaintances in the Nagasamudram village of the Guntakal mandal of Anantapur District.

The brawl which reportedly started off when the three were consuming liquor during the festivities of the annual 'Kadirappa Utsavalu', currently underway at Nagasamudram village.

The accused, Ranganayakulu of Pamidi town, who is working as an APSRTC driver of the Guntakal depot, got into a fight with the other two, which soon turned into a physical fight according to the police.

"In a fit of rage, Ranganayakulu took the knife lying nearby and attacked the duo. The duo suffered multiple deep injuries in the chest and other parts of the body", said the police, speaking to The Hindu.

The deceased have been identified as Ramasubba Reddy (45) and Laleppa (49), residents of the Nagasamudram village. The accused has been identified by the police based on the APSRTC personnel identification card found at the scene of the crime.

While the Guntakal police have registered a case, the accused, who escaped from the scene of crime, is still at large. Meanwhile, a few workers of the YSRCP alleged that the murders were politically motivated given the fact that both of those killed were YSRCP cadre.

However, there has been no official statement by the YSRCP regarding the issue nor has any prominent leader condemned the murder.
