Minister for Culture, Information & Public Relations and Information Technology Palle Raghunatha Reddy said the government was taking steps for the establishment of Sahitya Academy, Music Academy and one for fine arts in the near future.
It has issued necessary instructions for welfare of folk artistes and would ensure that their plight is improved through various schemes.
Inaugurating World Folk Day celebrations at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here on Saturday, Mr. Raghunatha Reddy said the sanctioning of Rs 100 crore for promoting Kuchipudi was reflective of the government’s commitment to nurture the traditional art forms. These art forms were given due place of prominence during the Godavari Pushkarams, he observed.
Mayor K. Sridhar, MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and others were present.
On the occasion, Mr. Raghunatha Reddy paid tributes to renowned Burrakatha exponent Sk. Nazar and felicitated his disciple Sabbi Kanaka Rao. He also honoured some other veteran artistes including Folk Artistes’ Association State General Secretary L.R. Krishna Babu.
The main event was followed by a captivating display of art forms Burrakatha, Tappetagullu and Pallesuddulu.
Folk artistes feted
The State Government will take the step needed to ensure that folk artistes get the appropriate remuneration for their performance, said Minister for Information, Public Relations Palle Raghunatha Reddy.
He said there was a lot of patronage to the folk arts in the past, but the Government was going to take steps to restore the folks arts to their past glory.
Several renowned folk artistes were felicitated on the occasion.
